In 2020, global woodworking machinery exports amounted to around US$7.39 billion with Germany in first place, followed by China and Italy. Taiwan was fourth in the global woodworking machinery export rankings, with exports last year worth around US$710 million. That accounted for 9.6% of global exports, and represented annual growth of 21.5% over 2019. This year the export value for the whole year could reach another peak, with impressive industry performance. The mainstay of Taiwan’s woodworking machinery exports is sawing machines, which account for 50.8% of total exports, followed by planers, milling machines and woodworking CNC machining centers. Taiwan's main export markets are, in order, the US, China, Canada, Vietnam and Germany.
Around the world, lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns have also increased demand for home improvement, which has been beneficial to Taiwan’s manufacturers of woodworking machinery. In 2021, the industry’s output value and export value both showed growth of 20% and above compared to last year. The industry is even more optimistic regarding the market for 2022, predicting that exports will increase quarter by quarter.
